KoL - Avatar of Jarlsberg

It's kind of late for me to write about Avatar of Jarlsberg perhaps, but I thought I should share what I've learned about the run here. Especially considering how much I am enjoying it, partially due to its low turn-gen gameplay, with how busy I've been lately.

Super Crimboman Crimbo Type

I'm working on the new Crimbo content right now. Figure I'd give the answers to the giant robot fight, which I have to say has some pretty amazing writing. If you'd rather figure out the solution yourself though, that's fine too. This just helps for those of you who haven't finished collecting all the plastic ingots and electrical thingamabobs so you don't have to waste any adventures trying to figure out what to do.

KoL - Zombie Slayer

The new seasonal challenge path is out, and it involves zombies! What could go wrong with modern gaming's most popular choice of enemies? ... Oh. Seaside Town is empty because of all the zombies... Oh, your familiars are all dead, except for the ones that are already dead... Oh, you ARE a zombie... Huh.

KoL - PVP Season 2

Kingdom of Loathing's PVP Season 2 has started! ... Which came with your hippy stone fixed so you're not forced into PVP's new set of minigames, which is good and bad. It was bad for me because I had some PVP fights banked for when the new one started to get a head start on the flower picking minigame, but the game only gave me 10 PVP fights after breaking the stone again. x_o;

Anyway, this season seems to be more balanced and active than the 1st season, encouraging people to ascend into other signs for a change.

KoL - Brushfire! Now with a Castle

So the world event is finally here for KoL, and there's a brushfire in the plains!
By dealing cold damage on the brushfire, you can help save the kingdom! ... or something. At least you'll get some commendations for your efforts depending on how much cold damage you deal on them.

Edit: More details have been added. Latest - Lord Flameface's Castle.

Tweet Tweet

I've been wondering whether if I should start tweeting more, and add a gadget on the blog that shows my latest tweets or something. Of course, I usually have a lot of things to say whenever I have something to say, so the 140 character limit might not work out too well for me. We'll see though.

As of right now though, everything that I put on my Twitter is the same stuff that gets posted on my Facebook, through AIM's AOL Lifestream thing. I can post directly from my buddy list on both Facebook, Twitter, and anything else I decide to join and link the account to, like FourSquare, which I really don't use much considering I still don't have a smartphone yet. I can't really picture myself going to too many places though, but it'll be something I can start doing once I get the phone. Maybe getting a smartphone may get me to tweet more often too.

Anyway, here's my usual progress post.

KoL - Bugbear Invasion + Tips!

So it's been over a week or two since the new ascension path was released, and it is the Bugbear Invasion path. It is an interesting path that completely replaces the Naughty Sorceress' Lair with the Bugbear Mothership. This offers many advantages in that you do not have to worry about any of the item tests for the 3 gates and the tower monsters, nor do you have to collect any keys either, allowing you to skip many areas in your run like the 8-bit world, the Hole in the Sky, and the Daily Dungeon completely. Instead, you will be presented with some new tests that are more combat oriented than farming up items.

Building Up Bonuses

The past few weeks certainly have been slightly more active on the site lately, and even though I said that I would be doing more shorter posts, they seem to have maintained the same amount of content as before. Well, whatever works, I guess. Perhaps that's just my natural amount of work I put into my posts. Sometimes they feel like some of the essays I did in school, in terms of how they're written. It certainly isn't mind numbingly boring or anything since they're topics that I wanted to talk about anyway. Regardless, I wonder if I can break out of my essay-length posting habits? Have them be a once in a while thing, maybe?

Anyway, this post is going to be one of those personal progress posts again, since it's been a while since I did one.

Unusually Busy

The past several weeks have been unusually busy for me. Mostly due to being dragged around places that are unplanned. We've been around places so much lately that I probably won't remember everything that happened, and each "adventure" may have been worth posting about as its own blog post, which I should really consider doing the next time it happens. Hopefully there will be enough to talk about in future "adventures".

KoL - Avatar of Boris Strategies

So it's been a while since I've talked about Kingdom of Loathing, as well as the current Avatar of Boris runs, and I feel that there can be more to talk about the strategies involving skills gained in Avatar of Boris, and when they truly shine in the run. At first however, ascending as many times as you can in AoB is needed to really take advantage of having certain skills during the earlier quests in-run, and this mini-guide will help you get through AoB runs faster, hopefully.
My current experience with Avatar of Boris as of this post.

KoL - Avatar of Boris + Tips!

Kingdom of Loathing just launched their new seasonal challenge path, and on top of it being a new path, it's also a whole new class! ... And they both happen to be called Avatar of Boris! Convenient!

This new path/class is very unique and new from the other paths and classes. It will definitely provide a different experience in KoL, as I have noticed immediately.

Edit: Updated to contain some tips now.

KoL - My HCNP Run Day 2 Analysis

Click here for the details and Day 1 of this run analysis.

Maintaining my buffs and juggling MP familiars sure is an awful lot of micromanagement, especially when you have a low max MP. When the familiar doesn't give me much MP during combats too, sometimes I'll run out of MP and lose some of my buffs for a few adventures. I'd like to work on minimizing that as much as possible, but I have to press on for now.

Day 2 - Goal: Level up as high as I can while completing quests. Aim for Milk of Magnesium access before eating.
Level 6 - Level 8

KoL - My HCNP Run Day 1 Analysis

This is a sample run of me doing a Hardcore No Path run on Kingdom of Loathing. For permanent skills, I have been following the Hardcore Skill priority list found here, with a few exceptions here and there for aftercore usefulness, trophies, and other purposes.
  • These are the skills I currently have.
  • These are the familiars I currently have.
  • With no other restrictions, I can usually ascend in 5 days, right around 1000 turns spent.
  • My play style isn't necessarily optimal, so may not be the best guide to use.
    • I use LOTS of MP for buffs. Therefore, MP restoring familiars are necessary.
      • Moxie classes are best for restoring MP with familiars.
  • This run will be as a Seal Clubber.
    • The Mongoose Zodiac
    • Grab Astral six-pack, and an Astral belt
Well, I'm sure there will be plenty of room for improvement, but here we go.

Crawling for Progression

It sure has been a while since I've done one of these. A lot of the reason why I stopped doing this was due to the lack of popularity in these posts where I talk about the progresses I've been making in the games that I play, and I don't blame you. Reading text about what part I'm at in each game is not all that interesting, especially if I try to go with no spoilers. Well, not this time! I might as well make use of the spoiler button when appropriate. It also doesn't help that I've been awfully slow at most games since I'm juggling too many at once, making small progress in each. I have been keeping myself from starting up new games though, in hopes of finishing up some more games before I do.

KoL - Crimbo Town 2011

Crimbo Town is here! Well, it came on the 17th, but yeah. Seems like there's another conflict in Crimbo Town this year for us adventurers to help fight, but it isn't monsters. It's famine instead. The elves' food source, candy, have been cut off from their main supplier, Big Candy from the Candy Diorama we've been decorating. So Uncle Crimbo is collecting candy and rewarding adventurers with Candy Credits which can be used to send Crimbo gifts to people in the Kingdom of Loathing.

Even Moar Content!

Kingdom of Loathing, day 16 of the Advent Calendar update, and a little Terraria talk. Since the sales on games this year aren't that great (so far), games that you already have now might as well get some extra attention this season. That's what I'm doing anyway. Hopefully I can get around to finishing the games that I'm currently working on, like Disgaea, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, Guild Wars, and Mass Effect, but most of it will have to come in January with all the holiday content being pumped out everywhere else.

KoL - Wand of Fudge Control

Well, right after talking a bit about Fudge Mountain, seems like I was right about there being a big update today with the Advent Calendar hitting the end of the 2nd week. Perhaps we'll see a new area in the Candy Diorama tomorrow, assuming each area is a week-long content? Anyway, after finding and defeating the Fudge Wizard from a random combat adventure (meaning he's not at the top of the mountain in the non-combat adventure), you will get the Wand of Fudge Control as an item drop. The things you can make with all the fudgecule you collected is quite something...
